Real Madrid will reportedly look to sell 27-year-old long-serving Spanish defender Jesus Vallejo in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Jesus Vallejo does not have a long-term future at Real Madrid. The Merengues are ready to cash in on the 27-year-old long-serving defender heading into the summer transfer window, with his near-decade-long spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Jesus Vallejo and his Real Madrid travails

Jesus Vallejo has struggled to stamp his authority since joining Real Madrid from Real Zaragoza in July 2015. A native of Zaragoza, the Spaniard progressed through the ranks at his hometown club, Real Zaragoza, before breaking into the first-team squad over a decade ago. He also served Los Maños Los Blanquillos as the club captain.

The 27-year-old had a lot of hype surrounding him when he joined Real Madrid in July 2015. However, Vallejo embarked on six loan spells away from the Santiago Bernabeu in the last nine years, managing less than 2,000 minutes of game time across only 31 appearances for the Real Madrid first team.

Meanwhile, the Spanish defender’s best time came at Granada CF, although he managed only three appearances for the club on loan in the 2023/24 season, with fitness issues and other problems hampering his campaign. Vallejo has returned to Real Madrid after his loan spell but does not have a future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

What next?

The report by AS has claimed that the Merengues are ready to listen to offers to sell Jesus Vallejo in the summer transfer window. Updates from a few months ago also suggested the same stance, which has not changed after the Spaniard returned to Real Madrid from his loan spell with Granada CF.

The Merengues have already lost Nacho, who has joined Al-Qadsiah in a Bosman move. In addition, Rafa Marin is closing in on leaving Real Madrid to join Napoli. Meanwhile, the reigning La Liga champions are looking to offload a few other players, with recent reports claiming Fran Garcia might be on the chopping block.

As for Vallejo, he has not been in a good place in the last few years and will hope to resurrect his career after his impending Real Madrid departure. It will be interesting to see where the 27-year-old, long-serving Spaniard plies his trade next season.
