Doug Robert Myers, 59, of Smithville, TX, formerly of East Petersburg, PA, passed away Monday, July 2, 2024. He was born March 3, 1965. Doug graduated from Hempfield High School in 1983 and Millersville University in 1987, and received his Master's Degree from University of Houston-Clear Lake, Texas.

In 1996, Doug married Karen Quinonez in Elgin, TX, with whom he shared many adventures. Doug was a marine biologist and served in many roles over the years, including as a fisheries observer out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska; an environmental educator at Armand Bayou Nature Center in Pasadena, Texas; and a scientist at Washington Department of Ecology, Puget Sound Action Team, and People for Puget Sound in Olympia, Washington, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Annapolis, Maryland. Over the years, he also served as a youth counselor, sang in several choirs, drummed with Planet Percussion in Olympia, and served on the boards of the Nisqually Reach Nature Center and Sound Action in Washington.

Doug is survived by his wife, Karen, his mother Deanna Myers, three sisters, Doreen Shearer, wife of Robert Shearer, Daphne Witmer, wife of Jerry Witmer, Dawn Landis, wife of Duane Landis, brother-in-law Kenneth Quinonez, and his wife Amy, and 7 nephews and 3 nieces and their families. He will also be missed by innumerable friends and colleagues.

He is preceded in death by his father Dudley Myers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Chesapeake Bay Foundation (cbf.org), Restore America's Estuaries (estuaries.org), or Sound Action (soundaction.org). A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
