Vivek S. Kavadi, MD, MBA, FASTRO, a distinguished radiation oncologist, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). Kavadi, a longtime ASTRO fellow, will be assuming his new role on November 1, taking over from the retiring CEO Laura Thevenot.

Extensive Clinical Experience and Leadership

With a focus on breast and prostate cancers, Kavadi has been actively involved in the field since 1995. He currently holds the position of Chief Radiation Oncology Officer for The US Oncology Network and has been instrumental in advancing cancer care at Texas Oncology.

In a statement, Kavadi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead ASTRO, acknowledging the legacy left by his predecessor, Laura Thevenot. He emphasized his commitment to furthering collaboration, scientific progress, and excellence within the specialty.

Exceptional Educational Background and Professional Achievements

Kavadi earned his medical degree from Harvard School of Medicine and holds an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His training at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he also served as a faculty member, equipped him with the skills and expertise necessary to drive innovation and growth within the field.
