A suspected electricity vandal, yet to be identified, was electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

In a statement released on Friday, Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of the same day. Ezeh described the event as “tragic and very unfortunate,” expressing concern over the frequent attacks on electricity installations within the EEDC’s network.

Ezeh detailed, “In the early hours of today (Friday), the lifeless body of an unidentified vandal was found near a distribution transformer belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc located around Missionary Avenue, Coal Camp, Enugu. It is presumed that power was restored while the suspect was cutting the armored cables, leading to his electrocution.”
