Award-winning author, cultural anthropologist, and photographer, Dayo Adedayo, who clocked 60 on July 1, 2024, held a birthday thanksgiving ceremony at the Atlantic Beach Estate, Lekki, Lagos State.

The event, which was a gathering of close friends and family, was graced attended by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his wife, Ibijoke; and the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, among others.

While speaking at the event, Adedayo said, “Personally, I didn’t want to do anything until two weeks ago when my wife started pestering me, saying ‘you can’t be 60 and not do anything’.”

He also appreciated those that were able to make it, including Sanwo-Olu and his wife, as well as the deputy governor, and other old friends and relatives.

One of the bible passages at the ceremony was read by Sanwo-Olu, after which he led the guests in a short chorus, and delivered his remark.

He said, “My friend and brother, Dayo Adedayo. Aside from his mother and one or two family members that are present here, I am probably the longest person to have known him…as young boys of ages 11 and 12 over 40 years ago. We want to thank God for the glory and grace he has given us. For 48 years, he has continued to shower his protection over each and every one of us. At 30 years old, he was struggling. I don’t know if he remembers it, but at 40 years old, we had an all-white party on the waters of London, and it was a glorious day. At his fiftieth birthday, he took us to Eko Hotel. We thank God that we can all witness Dayo’s sixtieth birthday.”

He concluded by praying for the birthday boy and encouraged others to wish him well after highlighting some qualities he observed from his friend that were worthy of emulation.
