The newly-elected chairman of the Ibadan District of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Alhaji Babatunde Kilani, on Wednesday solicited the unflinching support, cooperation and loyalty of members.

Kilani, in his address as the institute’s 24th chairman, said during the investiture ceremony in Ibadan that this would help to raise the bar of excellence of the society.

He said he was aware of the daunting responsibility ahead of him. “But with support and prayers, nothing is insurmountable.

“We have accepted to serve and promise to be a unifying force for peace, progress and unity of our district.

“Honour shall be given to whom honour is due and we shall operate an open-door policy.

”Our listening ear shall not be closed, nor will we become deaf to the yearnings of our teeming members, particularly the sage among us.

“All interests shall be taken care of within our capabilities and whenever we need to seek for help and counsel we shall not hesitate to do so.”

Kilani promised to build on the dreams of the founding fathers of the society, and uphold the tenets of the institute as enshrined in the District Societies Bye-laws.

In his address, the 60th President of ICAN, Chief Davidson Alaribe, commended the immediate-past chairman of the society and her team for the development and innovative projects executed.

Alaribe emphasised on putting in place a catch-them-young drive to ensure members of the young generation were brought into the professional body.

He urged members to support the chairman and other executive members so that ICAN can continue to move forward.

Also, the Chairman of the occasion, Deacon Titus Soetan, underscored the need for members to embrace modern technology in the discharge of their duties.

According to him, Artificial Intelligence (AI) should be integrated into workflow to optimise and harness the efficiency that comes with technology.

Soetan, a past chairman of the society, also called for unity and team spirit to enhance hitch-free administration.

The immediate-past chairman of the society, Dr Temitope Babajide, recounted the numerous successes recorded during her tenure.

She appreciated all who supported her and her team for the confidence reposed in them. (NAN)
