The Divisional Police Officer of the Shasha Division in Lagos State Command was thoroughly embarrassed after a 19-year old Dominion Folajimi  broke the Police cell window and escaped from custody, which threw the station into confusion.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Folajimi , when he was later rearrested, claimed that he told the DPO, during interrogation that he saw that the Police officers on duty on that day were sleeping and he damaged the cell’s window in order to escape.

However, when the DPO was informed about what happened, he ordered for the manhunt for Folajimi and he was eventually arrested and consequently charged before the Court over his alleged conduct by damaging the Police cell’s window and escaping from custody.

Folajimi was alleged to have gone to Ayomade Street, Santos Estate, Akowonjo area Lagos State, on 8th July, 2024 and stole aluminum worth N35,000 beginning to Haruna Abimbola.

He was caught and handed over to the Police for stealing the aluminum and was detained in the Police cell for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

However, at night, while some officers were on duty, Folajimi broke the cell’s window and escaped as the offiicers who were on duty were sleeping and did not know when he escaped.

In the morning, the Police officers discovered that the window was damaged and the suspect had escaped from custody, which caused serious embarrassment to the officers at the station.

He was later rearrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for stealing and wilful damage under the Criminal Laws of the State.

He pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor,  Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for facts and sentence since the defendant pleaded guilty to enable the Court to sentence him accordingly in the interest of Justice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, ordered his remand in correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the prosecutor will present the facts of the matter and he will be sentenced accordingly.
