Nigerian Lawyer Stella Sparks Debate with Controversial Statement on Marriage and Adulthood

Stella, a Nigerian lawyer, has ignited a heated discussion on social media with a statement suggesting that a married man living with his wife and children in his family house is still a "boy".

The lawyer's comment, which has gone viral, has sparked a mix of reactions, with some agreeing with her perspective while others have expressed strong opposition.

Stella's Argument

According to Stella, a man's marital status and parental responsibilities do not necessarily define his level of maturity. She believes that a man's dependence on his family's resources and residence undermines his adult status.

"A man who still lives in his family house with his wife and children is still a boy, not a man," Stella wrote on her social media platform.

“If you are MARRIED as a MAN and YOU are STILL LIVING in your FAMILY HOUSE with your WIFE and CHILDREN, you are still a BOY. Such a man is not ready to take up his RESPONSIBILITIES,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday.

“You and wife needs PRIVACY. You don't need to HIDE to MAKE LOVE for FEAR of anyone KNOCKING. YOUR WIFE needs to be FREE to wear transparent night gown for you as the husband.”

Reactions and Counterarguments

Supporters of Stella's view argue that financial independence and separate residence are essential indicators of adulthood. They emphasize that a man's reliance on his family's support system indicates a lack of maturity.

On the other hand, critics argue that Stella's statement oversimplifies the complexities of adulthood and marriage. They point out that various factors, such as cultural context, financial circumstances, and personal choices, can influence a man's decision to reside with his family.

Some have also questioned Stella's definition of adulthood, arguing that it is narrow and outdated. They emphasize that adulthood encompasses more than just financial independence and separate residence.
