A 67-year-old man was severely injured Monday evening when his vehicle was hit by a box truck that failed to obey a stop light in Tuscola County.

According to a press release from the Michigan State Police Caro Post, troopers were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle crash to the intersection of M-24 and M-46 in Tuscola County.

A preliminary investigation indicated a 67-year-old Lapeer man was traveling south on M-24 when a 27-year-old Saginaw man headed west on M-46 in a box truck disregarded the stop light and T-boned the Lapeer man's vehicle, according to the press release.

The Lapeer man suffered "significant" injuries in the crash that required troopers to use a tourniquet to control severe bleeding. The man was in stable condition at the scene of the crash and transported to an out-of-area hospital for treatment. The box truck driver was not injured.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and the box truck driver was cited for disobeying a stop light, the press release stated.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Caro Fire Department, MMR, Mayville Area Ambulance, 10 Point Towing and multiple bystanders.
