One teenage girl was killed and two others were injured when the car they were in slammed into a tree in Loomis Park late Tuesday night.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the dead girl as Leah C. Lynch, 16, of Fort Dodge. She was the driver of the car, troopers reported.

A passenger in the car, Amyrra M. Lumsden, 16, of Fort Dodge, was seriously injured. She was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, the State Patrol reported.

A second passenger, Jessie B. Leyja, 16, of Fort Dodge, was reportedly injured but was not taken to a hospital by ambulance, according to the State Patrol.

The crash happened at 10:59 p.m. not far from the North Seventh Street entrance to the park.

Lynch was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on the park road, heading toward North Seventh Street, when she lost control of the vehicle, troopers reported. The car went into the grass on the side of the road, spun around and slid sideways into a tree. The driver’s side of the car slammed into the tree trunk.

Firefighters used multiple hydraulic rescue tools to cut the roof off of the car and pry open the passenger side doors to free the girls.

The Fort Dodge fire and police departments, Webster County sheriff’s deputies, the Iowa State Patrol and the Webster County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the crash.
