classiccars.com 2024/10/5

Featured on AutoHunter.com, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1997 Dodge Viper RT/10. According to the Viper Club of America’s International Viper Registry, it is one of 117 RT/10s produced for the 1997 model year. As shown on The Viper Store website, it is also one of 64 produced in its color. Power is supplied by an 8.0-liter V10 and sent by a TREMEC T-56 six-speed manual to a limited-slip differential and the rear wheels. Features include fog lamps, air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD radio, a K&N air intake, and a Borla center-exit exhaust system. Finished in Viper Red and equipped with a color-matched removable hardtop over a black leather interior, this SR II Viper is now offered by the selling dealer with a removable soft top, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear title.

The Viper Red bodywork is topped with a body-color removable hardtop. Equipment includes fog lamps, a forward-opening clamshell hood, a removable rear window with a newer seal, and a rear spoiler. The selling dealer notes the presence of scrapes on the chin spoiler and stone chips in the paint.

A set of 17-inch polished aluminum wheels and 275/40 front and 335/35 rear tires connect this Viper to the road.

The two-person cabin has manually adjustable black leather buckets and red accents on the steering wheel rim and emergency brake handle. Comfort and convenience features include power windows and locks, adjustable pedals, a tilt steering column, power rack-and-pinion steering, air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD stereo, and a center console. Minor wear is present on the upholstery.

Vehicle information is displayed on a 200-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and coolant temperature, fuel, oil pressure, and voltage gauges. The odometer shows 44,321 miles; the CARFAX report indicates 43,799 miles as of October 2023.

Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 8.0-liter OHV V10 that was factory-rated at 450 horsepower. It’s been upgraded with a K&N air filter and comes connected to a TREMEC T-56 six-speed manual gearbox. The drive belt was replaced in 2016. In addition to the water pump being rebuilt in September 2023, the following new components were installed:

  • Radiator
  • Timing cover gasket
  • Crankshaft seal
  • Oil pan gasket
  • Water pump gasket
  • Valve cover gaskets
  • Oil filter base

A four-wheel independent suspension helps this Viper handle; a four-wheel alignment was completed in 2019. Power disc brakes with Viper branded front calipers and ventilated rotors bring it to a stop.
