High Court Sentences Two to Death for Brutal Murder and Robbery
Sentenced to Death By Hanging

IBUSA/Nigeria: In a solemn session at the Delta State High Court in Ibusa, Justice M.O. Omovie delivered a verdict that sent shockwaves through the courtroom. Mr. Ojerbo Solomon and Mr. Ola Babatunde were pronounced guilty of heinous crimes including murder, armed robbery, and rape, and were sentenced to death by hanging.

The prosecution, led by Mr. E.H. Edema, meticulously presented its case, supported by testimony from five witnesses. The court heard how on February 8th, 2016, the defendants, armed with guns, cutlasses, and knives, forcibly entered the victims’ residence. In a horrifying sequence of events, they subjected their victims to rape before mercilessly taking their lives, leaving devastation in their wake. While one victim, Mr. Praise Sunday, miraculously survived the brutal assault, tragically, his mother and sister succumbed to the attackers’ brutality.

Following the crime, the perpetrators fled on their victims’ motorcycle to Ewohimi in Edo State, where law enforcement eventually captured them. Throughout the trial, the defendants maintained their innocence, presenting their own testimony but failing to call any witnesses in their defense.

In delivering the verdict, Justice Omovie meticulously evaluated the evidence before him and unequivocally concluded that the prosecution had incontrovertibly proven their case beyond any shadow of doubt. The judge’s decision to impose the ultimate penalty of death by hanging reflects the gravity of the crimes committed and serves as a stern warning against such atrocious acts in society.

The sentencing marks a significant moment in the pursuit of justice for the victims and their grieving loved ones, as the legal system ensures accountability for such grievous offenses against humanity.
