Liverpool reportedly held talks with Gordon last week while Kimmich has been linked with a move to Anfield amid a reported fractured relationship with Bayern Munich.

Arne Slot is still yet to make his first signing as Liverpool boss a month into his tenure and will soon be welcoming back his players ahead of pre-season.

The Dutchman is set to make his Reds bow on July 27 when the club faces Real Betis in Pennsylvania, meaning there is plenty of time for new arrivals to be secured before his first outing. It’s unclear which areas the head coach is looking to strengthen but it is widely predicted a new midfielder will be sought.

Liverpool are interested in Lille defender Leny Yoro but do not see centre-back as a priority, having rejected a proposal from Newcastle to include Jarell Quansah in a swap deal for Anthony Gordon.

It is thought Gordon was keen on a move to Anfield before a transfer fell through, while another player linked with Liverpool could be shown the door by his current club amid the arrival of a potential replacement.

Gordon 'discusses’ Liverpool transfer in England camp

A report from the Telegraph claims Gordon had spoken to England teammates about his potential move to Liverpool amid their Euro 2024 campaign. Gareth Southgate said pre-tournament that he would not prohibit players speaking about their club futures in-camp.

And now the report claims Gordon has done just that as his agent pushed hard for a move to Anfield. However, Liverpool’s interest is described as ‘lukewarm’ with Newcastle unimpressed with the fees that were discussed.

The ECHO says: Speculation seems to suggest that Gordon was clearly eager to join Liverpool with reports elsewhere claiming Newcastle fear his head has now been turned ahead of the new season.

Liverpool’s apparent lax interest may infer that a return bid is unlikely under current circumstances. The club feel well stocked on the left flank with four options to choose from but an unlikely exit for Luis Diaz could change that stance.

Kimmich hope?

Bayern Munich seem to be closing in on a deal for Fulham star Joao Palhinha, which could signal the exit of Joshua Kimmich, who is said to be unsettled in Bavaria. Liverpool have been linked with the Reds being tipped to search for a midfield pivot.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano moots that it’s more likely that Kimmich leaves than stays amid the expected arrival of Palhinha. Bayern do have an option to extend his contract by 12 months but the odds of this happening seems slim.
