Keana killings: Nasarawa vows to deal with trouble makers

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has reaffirmed his administration commitment towards the provision of adequate security of lives and properties of the citizens across the 13 local government areas of the state, vowing to deal decisively with trouble makers causing unrest.

Crisis broke out around the Nasarawa-Benue border communities housing the indigenous Alago and Tiv farmers in the area.

Our correspondent also reports that during the land dispute that involved the Alago and Tiv farmers four persons were said to have lost their lives in the state.

The Governor, who made the remarks while addressing the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who were affected by the recent crisis that engulfed Kuduku community in the Keana Local Government Area of the state and promised to investigate the remote causes of the crisis.

Governor Sule, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Humanitarian, Special Duties, and NGOs, Mrs. Margaret Otaki Elayo, expressed deep concern over the unfortunate incident and sued for peace, tolerance, and patience among the Tiv and Alago communities in Keana of the state.

His words, “This administration will not hesitate to deal decisively with any trouble makers trying to out Nasarawa state on bad light.”

He, however, explained that the State Government, in conjunction with its Benue counterpart, traditional rulers, and other relevant stakeholders, is actively working towards finding lasting solution to the underlying issues causing the conflict, assuring the communities of ongoing investigations into the matter as well as collective efforts to restore peace in the affected areas.

Governor Sule who visited the palace of Osana of Keana condemned in its totality the killings and urged people of Keana to be patient, shun bitterness, and embrace peace for the overall development of the area and the state in general.

Responding, Chairman of Keana Local Government Area, Sanusi Abdul Giza, the Osana of Keana Alhaji Abdullahi Amegwa Agbo, who spoke through the Moyi of Keana, Joseph Osheka and Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Keana LGA, El-Nawani Sa’idu, underscores the importance of unity admonished the warring communities to always embrace peace and support the peace-building efforts of the state government.

He called on the state government to urgently address the issue of boundary adjustments between Nasarawa and Benue states to prevent further conflicts.

The Commissioner, on behalf of the Governor, extended condolences and presented food items to the IDPs families and assured them of government’s commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice.

While at the LGEA Primary School, Kuduku, where the IDPs are currently taking refuge, the Commissioner identified with a nursing mother who had given birth at the camp a day after the crisis following the conflict and directed that the mother of the baby should be given special treatment and ensure that the baby and it mother are provided with necessary medical attention.
