The seven degrees Celsius temperature in Caxias do Sul was, by far, Grêmio’s biggest concern in this 15th round of the Brazilian Championship. The team, which is already struggling in the tournament table, left the Alfredo Jaconi stadium on life support after losing 3-0 to Juventude. The Jaconera party was led by Gilberto, João Lucas and Erick who decreed Juventude’s victory.

With this result, Papo moved up two positions and reached 11th place, with 19 points. On the other hand, Grêmio remains in 18th place, with only eleven points. Tricolor Gaúcho sleeps, for another round, in the relegation zone.

Gilberto’s somersault and Papo’s brilliance

The feeling of sluggishness and slowness, usually acquired by the cold, seemed to have affected the players on the field, at least in the initial minutes. Six minutes into the game, Grêmio even forced Gabriel to make a good save after a shot by Reinaldo. The atmosphere began to heat up around the 20th minute, with Juventude proposing the game.

Grêmio’s reaction came in the 22nd minute with João Pedro, who shot at goal from the edge of the penalty area and hit goalkeeper Gabriel’s post. Gilberto responded with a dangerous header. The center forward, however, did not intend to make another mistake and in the 24th minute, he turned under the marker and in front of the penalty area, shot into the corner, leaving goalkeeper Rafael Cabral with no chance of saving it. The number 9, who had not scored since the Gauchão final, opened the scoring in the game.

Gilberto had another good chance in the 29th minute, but his shot was on Geromel. On the rebound, the forward received a cross from Jadson and headed the ball. The ball went wide of Rafael Cabral’s net. Jaconero’s momentum suffocated Grêmio, who had no chance of reacting once again in the 31st minute of the match, when they scored the second goal. The goal was scored by João Lucas, who took advantage of Geromel’s clumsy cut and finished first time.

The Tricolor Gaúcho tried to react in the 34th minute, but Edenílson’s goal was disallowed for offside. Despite the cold shower, the possibility of getting back into the game gave the players encouragement. In injury time, at 49 minutes, Geromel received a pass from a corner kick and forced Gabriel to make a great save and hold on to the 2-0 lead for the second half.

Jaconera Festival

The game resumed the same movement as in the first half, with Grêmio continuing to push the opposition’s field in search of a reaction. However, it was Juventude who caused a scare in the eighth minute, when João Pedro had a goal disallowed after the team committed a foul at the start of the play.

The Papo appeared at 13, when Gilberto wasted a clear chance to score. Faced with Rafael Cabral, the goalkeeper saved the shot with his foot and prevented Juventude’s third goal and then, the pace of the match slowed down.

With the barrage of substitutions for both sides, the teams needed time to get their bearings. On Grêmio’s side, the team seemed to have received a red card and left the field. Juventude shone once again in the 37th minute, when Erick Farias, in the penalty area, saw the ball deflect off his knee and end up in the back of the net, sealing the team’s third goal and freezing Grêmio in the Serra Gaúcha.
