The governor made the statement during the swearing in of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) 2024 Batches ‘B’ stream one corps members.

Radda was represented at the swearing in of the corps members by his Special Adviser on Students affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Nuhu.

He said, “Today will go down in history as a landmark event, particularly with the commencement of your individual and collective resolve to discharge an important obligation concerning the service to our dear nation.

“On behalf of the government and good people of Katsina State, I welcome you warmly and urge you to feel at home.

“We in Katsina State are NYSC friendly and I want to assure you of a conducive atmosphere throughout your service year.

“I have no doubt that you will find the state a home away from home, as our people are generally receptive and accommodating.”

Radda advised the corps members to be ready as the exercise would expose them to aspects of culture, tradition and some paramilitary exercises.

These, he said, were designed to adequately prepare their bodies and minds for effective and productive participation in the on-going efforts of accelerating national development.

Radda said, “I wish to place on record our appreciation of the contributions of Corps Members in the development of the state, especially in the areas of Community Development Service (CDS) projects and augmenting the manpower needed in our schools and Health Care Sectors.

“I challenge you therefore to live up to the standard already set by your predecessors to the progress and development of Katsina and the nation in general.

“It is my firm belief that the orientation programme will equip you for this great task,” the governor expressed confidence.”

According to him, the programme should stimulate and facilitate the corps members’ analysis of the wholesome aspirations and socio-economic demands of Nigeria.

Earlier in her welcome address, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed, said at the close of registration on Sunday, a total  of 1,140 corps members were duly registered, with 560 males and 580 females.

According to her, over the years, the NYSC scheme has been able to inculcate in the youth the spirit of positive citizenship and leadership values.

“Including the ideals of commitment to national assignment, constructive engagement, patriotism, integrity, diligence and loyalty to the fatherland.

“Therefore, I urge you all to take the orientation programme very seriously, stay disciplined and remain focused during the exercise,” she advised.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the oath of allegiance was administered to the corps members by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Danladi Abubakar. (NAN)
