The North East Development Commission has declared an emergency on the bridge in the Madagali Local Government that connects Borno-Adamawa state on the border of the two states.

The Managing Director of NEDC Mohammed Goni Alkali, who visited the area on Friday during his  inspection tour of projects in Adamawa State, expressed serious concern and noted that the commission must take quick action to avoid the two states from being disconnected as a result of the collapsed bridge.

He said that the major responsibility of the commission is to provide services that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the North East region.

Alkali, who visited the collapsed bridge with the project manager of Triacta Construction Company, Mr. Wajih directed the manager to immediately carry out a survey of the bridge to enable the Commission to take swift actions.

The NEDC who visited about 20 ongoing projects in the state challenged the contractors to take their jobs serious and ensure that quality is maintained and the contracts are executed within the time frame as expressed in the contract agreement.

He expressed satisfaction with some of the contractors and urged others to wake up to their jobs in order to meet the deadline of the commission.

At the Adamawa State University, in addition to the ongoing projects on the university new campus, he promised to execute a new gigantic water project in the school that can serve both the university and the host communities.

“I will also provide solar electricity lights on the university new campus to reduce the cost of the management buying disel or fuel to power the generators, “ he assured the management.

He told journalists that included Arewa PUNCH during the tour that the commission established at least one special school in each of the senatorial zones in the six states in the North-east region.

“The Commission has established special schools in the 18 senatorial zones covering the six states. This is part of our agenda  to compliment state governments’ efforts in promoting education in the zone, ravaged by insurgency,” he said.

Alkali pointed out further that water projects, mass housing, and road projects are ongoing in the different local governments in the state.

He disclosed that out of the 32 kilometers road awarded by the commission from Dabna in Hong Local Government to Garkida in Gombi Local Government 14 kilometers has been completed together with the bridge on the road between Dabna and Garkida.

Alkali assured the people of North-east region that the Commission will continue to fashion out projects with positive impact on their lives.
