Elle Macpherson’s name is synonymous with beauty and wellness, famously earning the nickname “The Body” in the late ’80s. You might recognize her from her five iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covers, her innovative wellness brand WelleCo, or her role as Janine Lacroix on Friends. These are just a few highlights from her decades-long career, which continues to thrive to date. She recently rang in her 60th birthday, gracing several magazine covers for the special occasion.

Always sparking intrigue, Macpherson even recently shared her nighttime beauty routine with Air Mail. Ahead, we’ve rounded up the most insightful tidbits from the interview, including the hot chocolate she swears by for wellness benefits, the face oil that dominates her skincare routine, and more.

On when she goes to bed…

“When I feel it’s time to rest and regenerate,” Macpherson tells the outlet. “I don’t really have a fixed time, although I’m always aiming for eight hours of sleep, so I work backward, depending on what I have the next day.”

On the star of her skincare routine…

Macpherson describes her evening skincare routine as “super simple.” She cleanses her face and then applies a rose face oil, noting that “Dr. Sebagh has a really good one.” The silky, antioxidant-rich formula includes rosehip seed oil, vitamin E, linoleic acid-rich maracuja oil, and a soothing compound named hydroxyphenyl propamidobenzoic acid, inspired by the calming benefits of oats.

An unexpected yet welcome part of her regimen? “I smile,” she adds. “It’s so important to smile before you go to bed.”

The supplement she takes before bed…

WelleCo The Evening Elixir

Unsurprisingly, she takes a supplement from her own brand, the Evening Elixir. “It’s a hot chocolate that helps you sleep and also works on your skin,” she tells the outlet. “It’s infused with magnesium, vitamin C, and niacin, and it’s been formulated by experts to boost skin collagen and help maintain skin structure and function. It also has antioxidants to protect cells from free-radical damage. It’s delicious and has only 13 calories.”

On how she decompresses before bed…

“Laughter,” she says. “I think having a good laugh is just so good for the soul and opens up the heart. That’s the most important for me—to take life seriously, but not solemnly. Also, to create a great plant-based meal shared with people I love. Sometimes I’ll jump into my portable infrared sauna. It’s one by Therasage, and then I’ll dip into the cold plunge.”

On the best sleep she’s “ever had…”

“It was after the birth of my sons,” she concluded. “I was so fulfilled, so in love, and so grateful that they’re in my life. And obviously after a long labor, that’s something else. But it’s really about welcoming those souls into my life and just such a sense of peace.”
