Why Braun Strowman Hasn't Been Seen In WWE, Explained
At one point in time, Braun Strowman was one of the biggest stars in WWE. After initially debuting as a member of the Wyatt Family, he ascended to the top of the company in singles competition. He faced some of WWE’s biggest names, such as Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Kevin Owens, and more. At WrestleMania 36, Strowman hit the biggest point of his career when he defeated Goldberg and became Universal Champion. While he was released from the company in 2021, he returned in 2022. Despite this second run not being as successful as his first, Strowman is still a considerable force to be reckoned with in WWE. However, “The Monster Among Men” has not been seen in a WWE ring for close to a year.
Braun Strowman's WWE pay-per-view main event matches varied in quality, with some impressing, while others were severely disappointing.
Strowman’s last match took place on the May 1, 2023, edition of Monday Night RAW. Along with his tag team partner, Ricochet, they battled Alpha Academy and were victorious. However, Strowman has not been involved in active in-ring competition since then. It was then revealed that he was dealing with a neck injury. It required surgery and in June 2023, Strowman underwent neck fusion surgery. However, there have been some positive reports. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select stated this year:
“Someone in January implied that he would be back soon and I was thinking 'surely not' but then I followed up and was told that “he’s doing way better than anticipated.”( h/t SEScoops )
It remains to be seen when Strowman will be 100% cleared to once again be back in a WWE ring and doing what he loves. However, based on Sapp’s comments, it seems that Strowman is steady on his way back to WWE, but the road to recovery has also been a lot on Strowman’s mental health as well. He stated in an Instagram story:
“I’m not gonna lie. This is hard. I hate not being able to do what I love. Especially after it was taken away from me two years ago. Being back where I love and then again having it taken away again by things that I couldn’t control yet again is hard. I just want to wrestle!” ( h/t SEScoops )
Strowman has made a couple of appearances, however. He was present for WWE’s honoring of Bray Wyatt on SmackDown following his passing. In addition, he also made an appearance at the WWE Experience in Saudi Arabia.

As mentioned prior, except for his brief time away from the company in 2021, Strowman has been a mainstay of WWE television since he debuted on the main roster in 2015. At first, he debuted as the “Black Sheep” of the Wyatt Family. He was a part of the group up until 2016, when he truly broke out as a singles star. He began squashing opponents on a weekly basis until he firmly established himself as a contender for the Universal Championship. He chased the title for years until he took Roman Reigns' place in a WrestleMania 36 Universal Championship match against Goldberg.
Due to the global pandemic, WrestleMania 36 entered unprecedented territory and performed to an empty arena, leading to some really strange moments
Strowman went on to hold the title for 151 days, losing it in a triple threat match at SummerSlam 2020. The match also involved Bray Wyatt and Reigns, which is where Roman's historic title reign began. Strowman floated through various feuds until he was briefly released in 2021, later returning in 2022.
Braun Strowman was an elite Strongman before entering the world of pro wrestling in WWE and even holds a record in the Strongman universe.
Since his return, Strowman had notably been in a tag team with Ricochet. The initially unlikely duo ended up being a good fit for one another. Ricochet has spoken very highly of this partnership. Speaking on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Ricochet said of their team:
“I don't want to say we have weaknesses because listen, I don't have any weaknesses. I don't want to say Braun has any weaknesses…What I lack – the power, the dominance, all those attributes that Braun brings to the table that obviously I just naturally don't have – he makes up for” ( h/t Wrestling Inc )
Throughout his career, Strowman has also been a former Intercontinental Champion and a two-time RAW Tag Team Champion. While he was not at the same position in WWE during his second run as his first, Strowman continues to prove himself as one of WWE’s most dominant big men in history and will certainly be a mainstay of the company once he returns from injury. Whether that be as a singles star or in tag team action, there is a lot for Strowman to do.
