Qatar commits to support Pakistan’s climate adaptation initiatives

ISLAMABAD: Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam on Thursday praised Qatar’s role in enhancing Pakistan’s climate resilience following discussions with a high-level Qatari delegation led by Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Abdullah wherein Qatar’s committed to supporting Pakistan in this area.

The delegation, which visited the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, engaged in detailed conversations on climate risk management, environmental preservation, and disaster response among other topics.

Alam outlined the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s clean and green initiatives aimed at safeguarding vulnerable communities and bolstering the nation’s response to climate-related disasters such as heatwaves, floods, and land erosion.

She emphasized the severe climate challenges Pakistan faces, including increased temperatures and more frequent natural disasters, which significantly impact agriculture, health, and infrastructure.

Alam also noted the growing water stress exacerbated by climate change, highlighting its impact on agriculture and water supplies.

Colonel Al-Abdullah commended Pakistan’s efforts in climate adaptation and disaster management and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in these areas.

The discussions underscored both nations’ dedication to fostering strong bilateral ties in tackling the adverse effects of climate change.
