President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to reinstating the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” emphasizing that it has always been a priority for him. Speaking at a meeting with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) leaders at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted that the National Assembly has enacted a law to revert to the old anthem, and he intends to adhere to this legislation. Tinubu stressed the significance of celebrating Nigeria’s diversity, reminding attendees that the country’s name was a legacy of British colonialism. He underscored the unity of Nigerians, urging everyone to work together to protect this diversity and foster mutual love and respect. As reported by Daily Post, the President also revisited his campaign promise, clarifying that he sought votes as Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not as a representative of any ethnic group. “When I came begging for votes, I didn’t say vote for me as a Yoruba man, I said vote for me as Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated. According to a statement from his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s primary goal is to safeguard and celebrate Nigeria’s diversity, with the reintroduction of the old national anthem being a significant step in this direction.
