Jason Momoa's long-rumored debut as Lobo could come in one of the DC Universe's first films. A new report claims Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow may mark Momoa's first appearance as the chain-smoking mercenary.

Per insider Daniel Richtman, DC Studios is eyeing Momoa for an undisclosed role in Woman of Tomorrow, the second DCU film in the revamped cinematic universe spearheaded by co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, that role, according to Richtman, "sounds a lot like Lobo." The report hasn't been confirmed nor denied by DC Studios as of this time.

James Gunn is set to bring new villains to the DC Universe, but some major antagonists aren't connected to any movie or television project yet.

Momoa has been linked to portraying Lobo since 2022 amid uncertainty over his future as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe. While promoting Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Momoa clarified his intentions of playing Lobo, having reportedly spoken with Gunn and Safran behind the scenes about the possibility. Despite the constant speculation, there has been no confirmation from Momoa or the DC Studios brass about a potential Lobo appearance or his future as Arthur Curry. Momoa became synonymous with Curry, playing the character in both Aquaman movies and Justice League.

Jason Momoa Would Fulfill a Dream Role by Playing Lobo

Considering Momoa has been a fan of Lobo since childhood, wanting to play a live-action version of the Czarnian isn't a surprise. As illustrated by fan art, Momoa boasts a similar appearance to Lobo, making him a believable candidate to portray the DC character. Lobo has been a recurring nuisance to Superman in the comics, with the intergalactic bounty hunter known for his colorful and eccentric nature.

Superman is filming with recent set photos revealing more of the film. Here's everything about the DCU project a little over a year from release.

Woman of Tomorrow stars House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as the titular hero, with the actor confirmed for the role this past January. The film is reportedly looking for a teenager to cast as a noted Kara Zor-El ally, Ruthye Marye Knoll, and an actor between 25 and 45 years old to portray the antagonistic Krem of the Yellow Hills. Craig Gillespie will direct Woman of Tomorrow, which features a darker, edgier take on Supergirl and her origins before she enters Earth. The film replaces a planned Supergirl film which would have featured Sasha Calle, who played the character in the DCEU's The Flash.

As a part of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, Woman of Tomorrow is second in line among the cinematic universe's film slate after Gunn's Superman comes out on Jul. 11, 2025. There are rumors Alcock's Supergirl could appear in Superman, though Gunn has denied this.

Woman of Tomorrow opens in theaters on Jun. 26, 2026.
