The video featured clips from social media platforms belonging to various MPs, such as Alice Nganga, among other leaders, holding bundles of cash and driving posh vehicles.

Al Jazeera spoke to Rachel Akinyi a Kenyan artist and activist who said the leaders showing their wealth had failed in doing their job.

Akinyi’s sentiments represent many sentiments aired by Kenyan youths who have been questioning the source of wealth displayed by these leaders.

“Many Kenyan politicians proudly show off their luxury lifestyles, but with the cost-of-living crisis and the deadly anti-tax protests, young Kenyans see the flashy habits of officials as unacceptable,” Al Jazeera captioned the video.

Many critics have opined that the leaders are living these lavish lifestyles courtesy of corruption kickbacks and embezzled public funds.

In the video aired by Al Jazeera, Didmus Barasa, MP for Kimilili Didmus Barasa said, “I have a helicopter that I purchased. I have been a member of parliament now 8 years.

During Senate proceedings on Wednesday, July 3, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale criticised Didmus Barasa and other MPs for flaunting wealth publicly while many Kenyans faced hardships due to the high cost of living.

He asserted that MPs displaying wealth were contributing to the anger among Kenyans during the ongoing anti-government protests…CONTINUE READING>>
