A Northern group, Arewa Think Tank (ATT) and alongside eight other civil society organisations (CSOs) have assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu would take Nigeria to the promised land by the end of his second tenure in 2031.
Speaking in a communiqué jointly signed by the chief convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, and co-convener, Rev. Clement Musa Jato, and issued in Kaduna Friday, after a two-day meeting on the state of the nation in Yola, Adamawa state, penultimate week, the groups urged Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration and return President Tinubu to office in 2027 “to enable him actualise and solidify his achievements in order to take the country to the promised land.”
The communiqué read in part, “We held a two-day meeting on the progressive state of the nation and the need to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to actualise and solidify his achievements up to the year 2031, when he must have concluded his second term in office in order to take the country to the promised land. At the end of the meeting, the CSOs officials visited prominent traditional rulers in Yola and informed them that the meeting was aimed at promoting good governance and security in Nigeria.
“Following the decreasing wave of insecurity in the country under President Tinubu, unlike the increasing trend of insurgency and security challenges during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, we realised that under the administration of President Tinubu, Nigeria has started witnessing downward and fizzling endemic corruption, reduction in abject poverty, massive unemployment and the lack of respect to the rule of law in the country.”
It read further, “The meeting also agreed that several efforts and measures have been made to improve living conditions of millions of Nigerians. The meeting reviewed the current security situation in Nigeria and efforts being made by Service Chiefs in eliminating terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits, as well as the on-going successful war against smugglers by the Nigeria Customs Service, under CG Adewale Adeniyi.
“We noticed that social justice, integrity and security are basic conditions for peace and prosperity and President Tinubu is doing well in this regard. President Tinubu’s administration is not left out of the fact that the world is shifting towards gender balancing and equity, women empowerment and inclusion. This government recognises the need for all children, especially the girl-child, to have equal access to quality education, regardless of geographical location, religion, resources, ethnicity and ability, in order to equip them to interact effectively in a global community.
“We confirmed that President Tinubu inherited several causes of corruption, injustice and bad governance and we noticed that he is leaving no stone unturned to correct these abnormalities in no distant time. In order to maintain the tempo of issues identified above, the meeting with one voice call on all Nigerians to exhibit the spirit of patriotism to move the country forward by intensifying actions, cooperating and synergising on restoration of true peace and security in the country.”
Wike on Tinubu
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said one of the key priorities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the security of lives and property.
According to the minister, any leader who cannot secure the lives and property of citizens has no business in governance.
The minister said this Friday while presenting 50 operational vehicles fitted with communication gadgets to security agencies to strengthen and fight insecurity in the Territory.
He said, while handing over the vehicles to the agencies, that the measure was to support security agencies with the needed logistics to enable them to combat crime without complaint.
The FCT Police Command got 24 vehicles, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), eight, Advance Party/Security Monitoring, and FCT Administration 6 while the Department of State Services (DSS) got five.
Furthermore, the Guard Brigade of the Nigerian Army received three vehicles while the Nigeria Air Force, 005, Abuja, Naval Unit, Nigerian Immigration Service, and National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency received one each.
He said, “We are no longer talking about infrastructure; we are no longer talking about taking development to the area councils; we are now talking about a key factor, a key agenda in the renewed hope mantra, and that has to do with security.
“We are not just concentrating on infrastructure; we are not only concentrating on bringing development to the hinterland; we are also concentrating on providing security in order to protect lives and properties.
“So, it is a priority for President Tinubu that Nigerians are secured, and who are those that are responsible? It is the security agencies.
“For us as a government, it is not the responsibility of Mr. President to go and identify where the criminals are; it is not my responsibility or the minister of state’s responsibility to go and engage criminals. It is our responsibility to provide the tools for the security agencies to confront these criminals and make sure we sleep with our two eyes closed.
“If we do not play this role, it will be difficult for our security agencies to be effective and to be able to carry out this function of securing lives and properties.”
He urged residents to support and pray for security agencies, who sometimes lose their lives in the line of duty.”
Wike commended the security agencies for reducing the rate of crime in FCT, promising continued support by providing the tools needed to work for the interest of residents.
He urged the security agencies to use the vehicles for the benefit of society instead of private use.
“It is not for you to use as private vehicles because it is air-conditioned, then you use it to carry your wives, instead of for the purpose it was meant for.”
Wike had, on April 16, donated 100 motorcycles to security agencies to combat crime in hard-to-reach communities
