Vigilante drone operator captures drug bust on camera

dailymail.co.uk 5 days ago

Shocking drone footage appears to capture the moment several young men engage in a drug deal before they are stopped by police.

Video of the apparent drug bust in Austin was posted by the Instagram account Chapu Flys with the caption: 'young street entrepreneur testing his luck.'

Police are seen arresting a young man wearing a red t-shirt and black pants after the drone footage captured him handing what appears to be drugs through the passenger side of a black sedan. Another shirtless man wearing grey shorts is shown hanging out in a nearby courtyard.

While the man is in handcuffs the cops hold him in front of their car and pull what appears to be bags of drugs and stacks of cash out of his pockets.

The viral clip is flooded with comments from social media users praising the vigilante drone operator for capturing the crime on camera.

DailyMail.com reached out the Austin Police Department for comment on the matter but they were unable to provide one based on the video alone.

In the video one officer appears to notice the drone camera looming overhead and throws up a peace sign before putting the man in the back of their car and driving off.

The footage captures the whole exchange after the man in the red shirt exchanges drugs then walked down the sidewalk and puts a black ski mask on.

He enters the fenced off building where the shirtless man was wondering in the courtyard.

While the man in the ski mask runs around the complex, he crosses paths with the shirtless man.

After briefly taking the mask, the supposed drug dealer notices the patrolling drone and quickly puts the mask back on and ran into the building.

The ski mask-clad man is then caught throwing litter onto the sidewalks as he tried to run away from the police.

The drone also captured the shirtless man, now wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood wrapped around his face antagonizing the camera.

He flips off the drone and attempts to throw rocks at it, and after failing to hit the camera in the sky he runs off.

A separate apparent drug exchange between a man wearing all black with red and white shoes and hat and man wearing a grey and white-striped shirt holding a paper cone was also caught on camera.

Chapu Flys' post has garnered over 32,000 likes and many commenters have applauded the drone operator for capturing the alleged illegal activity.

'I don't get why cops don't use drones to catch these low lives. Oh well somehow the job gotta get done. Way to go,' one person said.

Another said, 'Keep cleaning those streets bro.'

'These types of drone videos show just how quickly the laws could shut so so much activity down if they wanted to by just using drones purchased from Walmart and also AI tracking of people’s movements to show where the traps are,' said a third person.

Others felt the filming the incidents was unnecessary and called the cameraman a snitch.

'Wow. Snitchtagram,' one person said. 'Talk about modern day snitches,' said another.

A third person said, 'Harassing the public is the exact reason we aren’t gonna be allowed to have these in a couple years. Terrorizing citizens is turning support away from the hobby, and the abuse of airspace is gonna prompt stricter guidelines and enforcements.'
