New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox: Nestor Cortes vs. Tanner Houck
The old enemy comes to town with the Yankees looking to get back on track.
Three weeks ago, the Yankees went to Boston for their first meeting of the season against the Red Sox. The series started well with a comfortable win in the opener, but the Yankees then dropped the second two games.
While you could say there were some iffy performances here or there prior to that, that series was the real start of the Yankees’ recent slump. Including those three games, the Yankees have gone 5-13 since, losing every series bar a four-game split against the Blue Jays. Now, three weeks later, the Red Sox are coming to the Bronx for the first time this season as the Yankees look to use this series as a springboard to change their fortunes.
Starting tonight in the opener for the Yankees will be Nestor Cortes, who did not face Boston the first time around. His season has featured some ups and downs, and he’s come in off a slight down, having lasted just 4.1 innings after giving up three runs to the Blue Jays.
As for the rest of the lineup, we’re on day two of the “leadoff hitter Ben Rice” experiment. Besides that, the other notable change Trent Grisham is starting in center field as Aaron Judge will start at DH tonight. Austin Wells will catch Cortes and bat sixth.
For the Red Sox, Tanner Houck will get the start. The Yankees did not face Houck in the first series, but he’s been Boston’s ace so far this season, posting a 2.67 ERA and a 2.56 FIP.
With the Yankees looking to get back on track, we hope you’ll join us in the game thread for tonight’s action!
