Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has directed the management teams of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) and the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) to submit a comprehensive inventory of their equipment to ascertain the poor state of facilities under their respective control.

During an unscheduled inspection visit on Saturday afternoon, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed dismay over the state of facilities and personnel management at REMASAB and KAROTA.

Governor Yusuf discovered that there were just seven functional waste evacuation trucks despite the availability of 30, just as three payloaders were working out of the 15 available.

In a post on his X account on Sunday, the governor said, “I have ordered the management teams of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), and Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), to submit a comprehensive inventory of their equipment to ascertain the poor state of facilities under their respective control.

“These orders are after my unscheduled visit to the two government agencies on Saturday afternoon, where I lamented the inefficiency in the management of facilities and personnel of the agencies.

“At REMASAB, I discovered that there are just seven functional waste evacuation trucks despite the availability of 30, just as three payloaders are working out of the 15 available.

“While at the KAROTA head office, I discovered that a significant number of operational vehicles were grounded.

“I am not happy with what I saw at the two agencies, and we shall implement a total overhaul of the system, as we cannot afford to fail in the discharge of the mandates of agencies like KAROTA and REMASAB.”

“We shall, alongside their management teams work to address the immediate challenges of the agencies,” he added.
