The Ibadan Descendants Development Union (IDDU) Canada, has donated crucial medical equipment to the Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital (AMTH) in Yemetu, Ibadan.

The generous donation was made possible through a partnership with the State Health Mission Board (SHMB) and is expected to significantly improve the quality of healthcare for women and newborns.

While receiving the donation, the Chairman of the board, Dr Akin Fagbemi, praised the IDDU’s generosity, stating: “This donation is a testament to the strong partnership between the community and the government in delivering quality healthcare to our people.”

He also highlighted the Omituntun 2.0 healthcare plan, which aims to further consolidate the foundation laid by the current administration in its first four years.

According to him, the donation includes an LED operation light, 50 delivery packs, 10 caesarean section packs, and 40 neonatal packs.

Fagbemi, therefore, appealed to the Ibadan Descendants Development Union, Canada to extend their goodwill gestures to other hospitals in the state.

“These items will go a long way towards surgical intervention for women and their delivered babies, especially those who cannot afford the rising cost of consumables for surgeries.”

He added: “The SHMB is committed to providing a conducive forum for partnerships in Omituntun 2.0 towards qualitative healthcare delivery.

“We welcome community participation, especially in infrastructural upgrades and equipment upgrades.”

The Chairman went on to explain that the state government is currently in the process of employing new health workers across 34 cadres, which will help to address the shortage of personnel in the healthcare system.

“I want to assure you that the donated items will be judiciously used, and I once again express my heartfelt gratitude to the Ibadan Descendants Development Union in Canada for this kind gesture,” Fagbemi said.

The event was well-received by the hospital’s management and staff, who expressed their appreciation for the generous donation and praised the community’s effort in supporting the health sector.
