‘The main thing’… Frank Lampard shares what he noticed about N’Golo Kante while managing him at Chelsea

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has been speaking about France midfielder N’Golo Kante.

Frank Lampard got to work with N’Golo Kante during his two spells as Chelsea manager, though he did not get to spend too much time with the 33-year-old during his second stint in charge of the Blues because of injury.

Kante has put his fitness problems behind him, though, and is now thriving on the biggest stage again.

He has been one of France’s best performers at Euro 2024 so far.

As per WhoScored, Kante is making 2.3 tackles per game at the tournament, which is the second-highest average in Didier Deschamps’ squad.

Frank Lampard on N’Golo Kante

It is fair to say that Lampard really enjoyed managing Kante at Chelsea.

The former midfielder spoke about how much of a pleasure it was to coach him and shared the one area where he really excelled.

Discussing Kante on BBC One (25/06/2024 at 16:49), Lampard said: “A pleasure. Absolute pleasure to manage. Not many players can do what he does in world football. This is the main thing (while looking at a graphic showing France’s high-intensity pressures), you can see the high-intensity distance.

“We used to review this after every game and his numbers would be miles ahead of everybody, the high-intensity distances.”

N’Golo Kante back to his best at Al-Ittihad

After leaving Chelsea last summer, Kante now plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, where he is thriving.

Towards the end of his Chelsea career, the France international could just not stay fit.

However, at Al-Ittihad last season, he managed to make 44 appearances in all competitions.

If Kante played that number of games during his last season at Chelsea, the club probably would have kept him.

In the end, though, the former Leicester City star was only able to make nine appearances.

Chelsea had a bit of an injury crisis last term, so perhaps the Blues have to look at themselves — their training methods and medical staff.
