Heavy torrential downpour in some low-lying areas led to water-logging between Khadavli and Titwala in the Kalyan Kasara section of the Mumbai railway division, resulting in the cancellation of several Pune-Mumbai train services and causing inconvenience to passengers.

Central Railway announced that four trains from Pune to Mumbai have been cancelled. The cancelled trains are: 11010 Pune-Mumbai Sinhagad Express, 12124 Pune-Mumbai Deccan Queen Express, 11008 Pune-Mumbai Deccan Express and 12128 Pune-Mumbai Intercity Express.

Likewise, four trains from Mumbai to Pune have also been cancelled. They are: 11009 Mumbai-Pune Sinhagad Express, 12127 Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express, 12123 Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen Express and 11007 Mumbai-Pune Deccan Express.

Speaking to to The Indian Express, few passengers of the cancelled trains shared their discomfort.

“Finding out about the Deccan Queen’s calling off on a day before my MPSC exams was a bit inconvenient. The delay of the Indore-Daund Express is adding to my anxiety as I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to make it to Mumbai on time,” said Shivansh Shinde, a Punekar headed to Mumbai for MPSC examination.

Similarly, Pravin Khantale, another MPSC candidate, said: “The cancellation of the Deccan Express left me rushing for alternatives at the last minute. Booking another train was straining, especially with the uncertainty of getting a proper seat in Indore–Daund Express.”

“My parents are worried that constant delaying might result in the cancellation of my current train,” said Twinkle Golchha, headed to Mumbai from Pune via Indore-Daund Express.

According to a report by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), during the six-hour period from 1am to 7am on Monday, Mumbai experienced nearly 300mm rain at different locations.

“Workers are cautiously watching the northeast and southeast ghat sections and have not received any complaints of landslides or boulders falling. The cancelled trains will be operational from tomorrow onwards,” said a Pune railway official.
