This year's The Garfield Movie has been given a VOD release date. Adapting the classic comic series, The Garfield Movie was released in theaters on May 24, 2024. It featured a leading voice cast including Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, and Cecily Strong. The movie is directed by Mark Dindal and has a screenplay penned by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds.

As per Sony Pictures, a VOD release date for The Garfield Movie has been released. The Garfield Movie will come to video-on-demand starting tomorrow, July 9. The film will be available to buy and rent on digital. Select digital retailers will market The Garfield Movie with a number of extra features, among them including a gag reel, a compilation of Easter Eggs, and a deleted scene with Waddingham. Additional features include a progression of animation as well as a spot about the concept art for Garfield and how it was transformed for the big screen.

The Garfield Movie was widely panned among critics during the time of its release. The film received a rotten 36% on Rotten Tomatoes among 131 critics. A huge part of this criticism came from the lackluster voice acting from star Pratt, whose rendition of Garfield was stunningly similar to his own speaking voice. Pratt's voice also bore resemblance to the voice he put on as Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, getting Pratt the criticism that he was just using the same voice for every role.

The audience perception of The Garfield Movie differed vastly from that of the critics. In stark opposition to the critical reviews, the audience rating stood at a mostly-positive 80% approval rating. Furthermore, the film fared decently at the box office during its run. It made $244.8 million worldwide, easily cashing a profit on its estimated $60 million budget. To date, The Garfield Movie is the 7th highest-grossing movie of 2024, though it will likely soon be passed by the better-reviewed Despicable Me 4.

The top-grossing film of 2024 so far is Inside Out 2 , which has made $1.2 billion to date.

Because of The Garfield Movie's success among audiences and at the box office, the poor critical scores for the film are not as indicative of how the movie will do digitally as one might think. Pratt's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, despite similar criticism of Pratt's Mario voice, ended up becoming a massive hit on streaming, making it onto the Netflix global top 10 chart week after week. As such, The Garfield Movie may follow a similar trend of success as it imminently arrives on VOD this week.
