Cole Palmer could play in new position under Maresca — shown in lineup
The Athletic claim that Enzo Maresca might use Cole Palmer in a position different from the ones he had played before at Chelsea.
Under Pochettino, the England international featured either as a right forward or as an attacking midfielder. He's also been occasionally deployed as a false nine.
Where the 22-year-old didn't play for Poch is central midfield and that's where Maresca might use him in the 2024/25 season. In a piece about Chelsea's new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, the Athletic say that Palmer offers everything Maresca wants from a left-sided central midfielder.
The report states that Dewsbury-Hall will likely be the first option to play in that position, with Conor Gallagher as a backup if he remains at the club. But Palmer could feature there, too — and might actually win the competition there.
Here is what Palmer in the no. 8 role would look like.
