The Ogun State Police Command, on Sunday, said it had launched an investigation to track down the killer of a woman, Olubukola Adebajo, who was allegedly hacked to death by a yet-to-be-identified hoodlum in the Iwesi area of the Ijari community, in the Ijebu Ode area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the 35-year-old woman left her residence at the Alhaja Kuku House to buy some items when the hoodlum, who had been lurking around a corner in the community, ambushed her and used a machete to inflict deep cuts on her.

It was learnt that the mother of one sustained life-threatening injuries during the attack, and the hoodlum, after observing the impact of the attack, abandoned her at the scene and fled the premises.

A neighbour, identified simply as Adelaja, upon discovering Adebanjo lying motionless at the scene of the attack, quickly alerted her husband, Olaoluwa, who rushed to the scene and from there, rushed her to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital for prompt treatment.

Upon getting to the hospital, PUNCH Metro learnt that a medical doctor on duty confirmed Adebanjo dead leaving the bereaved husband, traumatised and demanding justice.

Residents in the community, while also lamenting the events that claimed the life of the mother of one, said hoodlums had also been burgling shops and stealing people’s property in the community.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, while confirming the attack, said Olaoluwa (the woman’s husband) reported the case to the police, adding that men from the Atan Ijebu Division were mobilised to the scene.

She said, “The incident happened on June 29, 2024. One Olaoluwa Adebajo, residing at Alhaja Kuku House in the Iwesi area of Ijari, reported a murder in the Atan Ijebu Division.

“He stated that earlier that day, he received a call from his neighbour, one Adelaja, informing him that his wife, Oluwabukola Adebajo, 35, had been attacked with a machete by an unknown assailant. The suspect fled the scene after being chased.

“On receipt of the information, the police immediately visited the crime scene, took photographs, and the victim was rushed to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital for medical treatment. Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead by the attending doctor and her body was placed in the hospital morgue.”

Odutola said the command had commenced an investigation into the case, adding that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspect.

“No stone will be left unturned as preliminary investigations by the police are actively ongoing to apprehend the perpetrator. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Odutola added.
