Thugs shot him in the head in night raid

A trader in Kisii was Thursday night shot dead by unknown thugs as he returned to his house at Menyinkwa area.

The body of Justus Okari was found sprawled on the tarmac on bend meters from his Mwamoriango home.

It had gunshots to the head, villagers and family members told the Star.

They said they heard gunshots at around 9.30 at night and had initially thought it was a transformer that had burst only to discover moments later that it was Okari who had been shot.

The deceased was on a bodaboda when a probox trailing him blocked the rider before the thugs aboard disembarked and pumped bullets on him killing him on the spot.

The thugs also ransacked his pockets and took off with money and other valuables,family members said.

Okari’s wife, Bathsheba Okari, speaking between sobs said she suspects her husband was slaughtered following a prolonged land dispute within the family .

“He has severally expressed fears of a plan to have him killed because of the issues linked with this land. In fact there was an early attempt on his life before this happened ,” she narrated between sobs.

She is survived of a young woman twin.

Denis Anyagi, the deceased’s uncle said they have severally tried to resolve the land dispute and at one they had thought it was resolved before the assassin killed him.

Church elder John Ombase described Ol killing as cold blooded further asking the government to track the killers.

” But as investigations start we ask our people to maintain peace, “he told journalists.

Nyaura chief Nyakundi Johnson said already the matter is being probed and hopes suspects will be arrested.

The body is lying at Christmarriane Mission Hospital.
