Workshop on Current Trends in Public Sector to Enhance Integrity — Salam

Hon. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee (PAC), emphasized the importance of the National Workshop on Current Trends in Public Sector Accounting and Auditing in bolstering integrity within Nigeria’s financial system.

Speaking at the workshop held in Lagos, Rep. Salam underscored its role in enhancing the integrity and efficiency of the country’s public financial management systems. He expressed gratitude to the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation for their steadfast support and collaboration in organizing the crucial workshop.

Additionally, Rep. Salam acknowledged the African Development Studies Center (ADSC), the workshop’s organizers and facilitators, for their expertise and dedication, which contributed to a comprehensive and impactful program.

“The Public Account Committee has always been at the forefront of promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in the management of public funds,” stated Rep Salam.

“This workshop is part of our continuous effort to equip our officials with the latest knowledge and skills in public sector accounting and auditing. By staying informed and adopting innovative practices, we can significantly enhance the transparency and accountability of our public sector financial management.”

3. Digitalization Initiative: The Speaker of the House of Representatives will launch the PAC digitalization process, pioneering in the region to streamline public account auditing processes.

4. Commitment to Transparency: PAC reaffirms its commitment to openness and transparency, aiming to engage citizens in achieving integrity and efficiency in public resource management.

Hon. Salam emphasized the importance of active engagement, sharing experiences, and collaboration among participants to ensure the success of these initiatives. He highlighted the critical role of building public trust through improved financial management systems, which are pivotal for the nation’s overall development and progress.

“Together, we can build a better Nigeria, where public resources are managed with integrity and efficiency, and where accountability and transparency are the cornerstones of our governance,” Rep Salam added.
