KY churches are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of their congregations. In a recent conference held in Jessamine County, church members from across the Commonwealth gathered to learn about emergency preparedness and response.

Prioritizing Safety

The event highlighted the vital role of safety and security teams within churches. Scott Barker, Better Life Church Safety Team Coordinator, emphasized the importance of these teams in times of crisis. 'Our gift may be in ensuring the safety of our fellow church members,' Barker stated.

Preparing for the Unexpected

Carl Chinn, the Founder and President of the Faith Based Security Network, stressed the importance of readiness, willingness, and capability when it comes to church safety. Chinn, who founded the organization after a personal safety incident, underlined the need for churches to have intentional safety programs in place.

A Call to Action

Chinn's own experience of surviving a church shooting in 2007 solidified the necessity for safety teams. 'We were able to stop the attacker and prevent further harm,' Chinn recounted. The message of the conference was clear: every church must be prepared for any emergency situation.

Proactive Measures

Tim Hazlette, the Safety Ministry Director at Clays Mill Baptist Church, urged attendees not to underestimate the possibility of a crisis. Whether it's a medical emergency or a violent threat, safety teams play a crucial role in protecting lives.

Expertise in Action

Many of these safety teams comprise former law enforcement or medical personnel, bringing valuable skills and experience to the table. By prioritizing safety and preparedness, churches in Kentucky are taking significant steps to safeguard their congregations.
