• Says some aggrieved APC members ready to join party
• We’ll resist attempt to drag Ogun PDP back to comatose, say Adebutu, Sowunmi

A chairmanship aspirant, Segun Akinwumi, yesterday, said that his political associate and former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, would soon return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Akinwumi, who spoke during a media briefing, yesterday, in Ado-Ekiti, said that Oni is merely waiting for an appropriate time after the PDP might have resolved the lingering crisis bedeviling the party before returning, saying that the former governor does not want to get entangled in the crisis.

He also said that several aggrieved members of the ruling APC in the state were already reaching out to him and expressing their desire to decamp to the PDP.

Akinwumi has pledged to hand over the PDP to original owners who have remained in the trenches due to the intractable crisis rocking the party, saying that he is the only aspirant who could do it.

He, therefore, urged members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants to reposition the PDP.

Relatedly, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu and a chieftain of the party, Segun Sowunmi, have vowed to resist any attempt to take the party back to comatose.

Adebutu spoke while addressing leaders and members of the party during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta ahead of the party’s congress.

He said the party would avoid any temptation that might cause it to return to the days of “scourge and disunity.”
Sowunmi urged members to support and vote for those who would work for the success of the party at the forthcoming congress.

He said: “In Ogun State, we fought hard to bring PDP back to life and the party is now very active. Nobody can take the party back to comatose. We will not allow it as we can’t afford to go back to the era where PDP was riddled with crisis.”
