Netflix users are flocking to social media in awe of a 'modern day superhero story with a few twists' which they've already binge-watched all of.

Move over The Boys, Heroes and all you American superhero series.

And Misfits fans, prepare for a glow-up because a new British superhero TV series has just dropped and it's taking Netflix by storm.

Plot, cast and crew

The series was created and directed by Rapman - Andrew Onwubolu MBE - (Blue Story) with Sebastian Thiel also directing three episodes.

It stars the likes of Tosin Cole (Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens), Adelyao Adedayo (The Responder), Yasmin Monet Prince (Hanna), Eric Kofi-Abrefa (Blue Story), Josh Tedeku (A Town Called Malice) and Nadine Mills (The Strangers).

The story centres around five Black South Londoners who all share a family history of sickle cell disease, however, instead of developing the disease, they end up obtaining superpowers - and a whole lot more - and find each other.

But will they be able to survive when an organization starts hunting them down?

The six-episode series - titled Supacell - was released onto Netflix on June 27, yet speedy viewers have already binge-watched their way through, flooding to social media to give their thoughts.

Reaction

The first week Supacell arrived on Netflix it gained 33.5 million views and 6.4 million hours views, hitting spot number two overall in the streaming service's Top 10 for the week of 24 June to 30 June, according to ScreenRant.

And fans of the series have taken to Facebook to share the news, with one user stating: "Yes this was very good!!! I watched them all yesterday!!!"

"Loved it and yep binged it too although it's not hard to binge six episodes is it! "They're getting less and less these days, suppose we have to wait a year or more for the next six!!" another added.

A third commented: "Yep I watched it all in two days. Bloody loved it. Can’t wait for the next series!!"

And the love for Supacell has spilled onto X too.

A Twitter user wrote: "I think @RealRapman is an actual genius. Coming up with a show that encompasses black culture, an illness that predominantly affects us, and making those things a prerequisite of getting superpowers???

"This show is what we NEEDED in so many ways. Season 2 when??? #Supacell."

Thankfully, if you have binge-watched season one already and have been impatiently waiting for news of a follow-up, Rapman revealed to UNILAD whether or not there are plans for a season two.

Another user said: "Make sure you give Supacell the double thumbs up after you binge watch.
