Starring as the Man of Steel in Superman will undoubtedly see David Corenswet soaring to greater heights than ever before in his career. However, horror fans may still remember him for the role he had in Pearl, the prequel to Ti West's X and MaXXXine.

The third chapter of the horror movie series, MaXXXine, is now playing in theaters. Meanwhile, Corenswet is deep into production on Superman, as can be seen in recent images taken from the Ohio set. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, West was asked about Corenswet moving on from Pearl to Superman, and the director remarked about how it was such great casting. West also recalled how he was asked about Corenswet's potential casting in Superman shortly after he worked with the actor on Pearl. The director shared how he gave Corenswet a very strong recommendation, playing a small part in the actor landing his casting as the iconic DC superhero.

"He does kind of look like Superman, so that seemed sensible to me," West said of the casting. "But we just had a great conversation [during casting]. We’re from a similar part of the world and we got along and he understood the kind of movie [I wanted to make]. I think he said his favorite movie was Singin’ in the Rain, and when we were going to make Pearl, he understood the kind of golden age of Hollywood thing that he was coming into as a performer."

West continued, "He’s also just a great guy, and we just really got along. I think I’d seen him in Hollywood, and he was a good actor, but it was more that we just had a great conversation. He then came down to New Zealand, and we had a great time together. But I did get some calls when he was up for Superman. People were snooping around about him for that, and I wholeheartedly endorsed him. He deserves every bit of it, and I’m so excited to see [Superman]."

David Corenswet Is the New Man of Steel

Superman, which was originally in development under the name Superman: Legacy, will introduce Corenswet as the next live-action incarnation of the Man of Steel on the big screen. Director James Gunn is paying respect to at least one other beloved actor to play the role, however. It was recently revealed that the film will also include a special appearance from Will Reeve, the son of late Superman actor Christopher Reeve.

MaXXXine is now playing in theaters, while Superman will land on July 11, 2025.
