‘Bachelorette’ Leading Ladies Through The Years, Since 2003
The Bachelorette reached its hallmark 20th season last year with Charity Lawson starring in the summer of 2023. Its counterpart series The Bachelor has run for 28 seasons. Jenn Tran will step up to head Season 21 of The Bachelorette following in the footsteps of 21 other women who have starred on ABC’s reality dating show since 2003.
As Jenn’s season approaches with a July 8 premiere, Deadline has rounded up all of The Bachelorette leading ladies over the years.
Walk down memory lane of The Bachelorette stars below:
Trista Rehn became the first Bachelorette star in 2003 after appearing on Alex Michel’s season of The Bachelor, which was the first season. Her season contained 25 suitors. She married Ryan Sutter, a firefighter, in December 6, 2003, and she recently celebrated her 50th birthday in 2022.
Meredith Phillips was on Bob Guiney’s season of The Bachelor, and she became the second Bachelorette in 2004. Her season contained 25 suitors. She ended up choosing Ian McKee.
Jen Schlefft appeared on The Bachelor and captured the heart of star Bachelor Andrew Firestone. Their relationship didn’t work out, and she appeared on The Bachelorette for its third season with 25 contestants. She gave her final rose to Jerry Ferris, who proposed only for her to defer. H proposed again on After the Final Rose in February 2005, but she declined.
DeAnna Pappas appeared on the 11th season of The Bachelor. Her season also contained 25 suitors, and she accepted a proposal from Jesse Csincsak, but they broke up in November 2008 before their wedding was set to take place in May 2009. DeAnna ended up with Stephen Stagliano in October 2011, and his brother, Michael, was a contestant on the fifth season of The Bachelorette. Jesse Csincsak married Ann Lueders from Season 13 of The Bachelor.
Jillian Harris stood out on Jason Mesnick’s season of The Bachelor. She led the fifth season of The Bachelorette with 30 candidates for marriage. She accepted a proposal from Ed Swiderski.
Ali Fedotowsky appeared on the 14th season of The Bachelor with Jake Pavelka. She ended up choosing to pursue a job instead of be with Jake. As the sixth Bachelorette, she had 25 suitors, and she accepted a proposal from Roberto Martinez.
Ashley Hebert appeared on Brad Womack’s season of The Bachelor. She married J.P. Rosenbaum on December 1, 2012.
Emily Maynard also appeared on Brad Womack’s season of The Bachelor. She went on the 15th season of the show as a 26-year-old widow of race car driver Ricky Hendrick. Her season remained close to her daughter, and she accepted a proposal from Jef Holm out of 25 contestants.
Desiree appeared on the 17th season of The Bachelor. She became the star of Season 9 of The Bachelorette with 25 candidates, and she married Chris Siegfried on January 18, 2015.
Andi Dorfman didn’t want to force a connection with Juan Pablo Galavis on Season 18 of The Bachelor. She met 25 suitors for her season of The Bachelorette, and she accepted a proposal from Josh Murray with runner up Nick Viall.
Kaitlyn Bristowe was voted as the 11th Bachelorette over Britt Nilsson by 25 bachelors. She accepted a proposal from Shawn Booth, and her runner-up was also Nick Viall, who became the first contestant to do that two seasons in a row. Viall joined the group of Kaitlyn’s suitors late in the game.
JoJo Fletcher appeared on Ben Higgins’ season of The Bachelor. She had 25 suitors, and she accepted a proposal from Jordan Rogers, former NFL quarterback.
Rachel Lindsay appeared on the 21st season of The Bachelor — Nick Viall’s season. She became the first Black Bachelorette for the 13th season, and she had to narrow down her choice from 31 men. She accepted a proposal from Bryan Abasolo, and they got married on August 24, 2019.
Becca Kufrin was engaged to Arie Luyendyk Jr. after the 22nd season of The Bachelor, but Luyendyk Jr. changed his mind and chose not to marry Kufrin. Of 28 candidates on her season of The Bachelorette, Becca accepted a proposal from Garrett Yrugoyen.
Hannah Brown appeared on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor. She became the 15th Bachelorette and had 30 suitors on her season. She accepted a proposal from Jed Wyatt, but after she found out he had not been honest with her about a serious relationship he had in Tennessee, she ended their relationship on July 30, 2019 after trying to work it out. Hanna Brown made history when she took all four of her final suitors to Greece after hometowns. She is now engaged to Adam Woolard as of August 2023, and she just published her romance fiction book Mistakes We Never made.
Clare Crawley appeared on the 18th season of The Bachelor. She ended up falling for Dale Moss on her season almost immediately, and she only had eyes for him as the competition went on, so Tayshia Adams ultimately replaced her for The Bachelorette Season 16.
Tayshia Adams replaced Clare Crawley, who found love sooner than expected on The Bachelorette Season 16. Tayshia appeared on Season 23 of The Bachelor. She ended up accepting a proposal from Zac Clark on The Bachelorette, but they split in 2021.
Katie Thurston was announced as the lead for Season 17 along with Michelle Young’s following Season 18 back-to-back. Katie appeared on the 25th season of The Bachelor, and she gave her final rose to Blake Moynes. They ultimately parted ways in 2021.
Michelle Young joined Matt James’ season of The Bachelor as a late arrival, where she competed with Katie Thurston. The announcement of Michelle’s turn as The Bachelorette for Season 18 was made in conjunction with Thurston’s appearance as leading lady for Season 17. She chose Nayte Olukoya, but they ended their engagement in June 2022.
Gabbey Windey and Rachel Recchio co-starred on Season 19 of The Bachelorette after appearin on Season 26 of The Bachelor. Windey is now dating Robby Hoffman after she accepted a proposal from Erich Schwer.
Rachel Recchia chose Tino Franco when she co-starred with Gabby Windey on Season 19 of The Bachelorette, but after his infidelity was revealed, she broke things off and went to catch up with ex-boyfriend Aven.
Charity Lawson appeared on Zach Shalcross’ season of The Bachelor before becoming the star of Season 20 of The Bachelorette. She chose Dotun Olubeko out of three finalists — Aaron Bryant, Olubeko and Joey Graziadei, who became the next Bachelor.
Jenn Tran will star as the 22nd leading lady of The Bachelorette. She appeared on Joey Graziadei’s season of The Bachelor and her season begins July 8, 2024.
