ZANESVILLE, OH – Rambo Memorial Health recently hosted their annual asthma camp, Camp Wheeze-Away, providing a breath of fresh air for children aged 7 to 12. Fun-Filled Activities for Asthmatic Kids
Camp Wheeze-Away is a unique camp aimed at helping children with asthma stay active and enjoy a variety of activities safely. Over the course of two days, campers engaged in a range of indoor and outdoor activities, including games, sports, crafts, and educational sessions. The camp's objective was to demonstrate that asthma should not restrict children from having fun and participating in everyday activities.
Rambo Memorial Health's Executive Director, Shannon Bell, shared, "We fish, we go on a splash pad, we do some activities that the kids don't really realize are educational. They learn all about their asthma. Today, we're back here at Rambo and the fire department came here, the Coca-Cola semi is coming, and Muskingum Behavioral Health brings therapy dogs. In the afternoon, as a big treat for the kids, we go bowling." Building Confidence and Understanding
Camp Wheeze-Away has been a heartwarming success, offering children valuable experiences, confidence, and a deeper understanding of managing their asthma. Bell emphasized, "The biggest thing that we want kids with asthma to know is that they do not have to be excluded from anything. The way that our camp is set up, they get to bring a friend with them. Their friend also gets to learn about what it's like to have asthma. It's a whole educational process also." Empowering Children with Asthma
The camp continues to empower children with asthma by showing them that they can fully participate in various activities and enjoy a fun-filled experience without limitations. Camp Wheeze-Away's success lies in its ability to provide educational opportunities, foster friendships, and instill confidence in children with asthma.
