Properties worth millions of Naira have been destroyed and many houses have also collapsed as well as people being displaced following the flood that hit Kargo village in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

About 100 houses were said to be affected in the incident which hit the community in the wee hours of Sunday, and the cause of the flood was said to be due to the torrential rain which fell for long time.

Some residents said many of the affected persons were forced to seek shelter at nearby hospitals, schools and other facilities, and that the flood also contaminated their sources of water.

The Jigawa State Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Haruna Mairiga, has promised that government would provide the necessary assistance to the affected residents, and then ordered his team to facilitate the construction of an emergency drainage to divert water in case of future flooding.

Speaking when he visited the village to assess the level of damage, the Executive Secretary also advised the residents to avoid drinking from the contaminated sources and seek medical attention immediately if they experience any symptom of health challenge.

The villagers thanked him for the visit and promise of assistance, and called on the Jigawa State Government to come to their aid by immediately providing assistance to the affected residents, including food, shelter and medical aid.
