FG approves over N2trn for development of affordable housing for Nigerians

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved over two trillion naira for the development of affordable housing for Nigerians.

Matthias Byuan, Executive Director of Finance and Accounts, disclosed this at NKST Mbawa in Guma local government area of Benue State during a Thanksgiving event for the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

In many cases, constructing new housing affordable to low-income households is not financially feasible without government subsidy.

The rents or home prices that low-income households can afford are just too low to support the costs of constructing and operating new development.

There’s a huge shortage of affordable housing in many Nigerian cities and towns.

To deal with this problem the Federal government have come with an initiative aimed at providing shelter for low-income earners nationwide, spanning all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Similarly, the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Terlumun Utsev announced commencement of work on the construction of River Benue, Buruku crossing point, noting that contractors handling the project have already moved to site.

The Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District, Emmanuel Udende and his counterpart from Benue North-West Senatorial District, Titus Zam, respectively called on the people of Benue State to sustain their support and prayers for the SGF.

In addition, the federal government has approved the construction of water projects across all local government areas of Benue State, stressing that each senatorial zone of the state is to have a dam constructed for irrigation to enable all year round farming.
