In a heart-wrenching display of courage and bravery, Captain Anshuman Singh was awarded the prestigious Kirti Chakra posthumously for the ultimate sacrifice in saving the lives of his fellow army men during a fire incident in Siachen. His sacrifice is a testament to his unwavering dedication to duty. In a heartfelt ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu honoured Captain Singh's courage by presenting India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award to his widow, Smriti Singh, alongside his mother, Manju Singh.

After receiving the award on Anshuman’s behalf, Smriti called their enduring love story, a journey that began with a chance encounter in college and endured through the challenges of a long-distance relationship.

Recalling their love story, Singh said, “We met on the first day of our college. I would not be dramatic, but it was love at first sight. After a month, he got selected into the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). We met in an engineering college, and he got selected into a medical college, super intelligent guy. After just one month of meeting, it was a long-distance relationship for eight long years and then we thought we should get married now so we did.”

Singh also shared the last conversation between them and said, “Unfortunately, within two months of marriage, he got posted to Siachen. On July 18, we had a long conversation about how our life will be in the next 50 years — we are going to build a house, we are going to have kids, whatnot. On the 19th morning, I get up, I get a call that he is no more.”

The video that is being shared widely on social media platforms including X, and Instagram have garnered several reactions from netizens. “We thank you. We are safe because of heroes like him,” a user wrote on X.
