Former President Donald Trump celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision in his presidential immunity case Monday by calling for the closure of all criminal and civil cases pertaining to investigations into his conduct.

In a 6-3 decision released Monday morning, the Court granted Trump — and all others who have occupied and will occupy the Oval Office — immunity from prosecution for all acts performed in his official capacity as commander-in-chief. As a result, the federal case pertaining to the January 6 Capitol riot and Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election has been sent back to lower courts to determine whether all of the alleged criminal conduct outlined by Special Counsel Jack Smith was performed in that capacity, or in a personal capacity, from which the Court said presidents were not immune from prosecution.

Trump seemingly interpreted it differently.

Notably, the Court’s decision on Monday has no bearing on either of the two civil cases he mentioned or the falsification of business records case that already yielded a conviction on 34 counts.
