Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has received some praise from the media in Uruguay after he shone for his national team at Copa America.

With Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez at the Copa America with Uruguay, the striker has been playing well under Marcelo Bielsa so far at the tournament.

Since Darwin Nunez completed his move to Liverpool back in the summer of 2022 from SL Benfica, the young forward has been criticised for his inconsistency in front of goal for the Reds.

Whilst he has been a nuisance for opposition defenders throughout his time in the Premier League, the 24-year-old seems to struggle to put the ball in the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Nunez receives praise for performance at Copa America

In Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield, Nunez netted 18 times for Liverpool but he was still labelled as inconsistent for the Reds.

Liverpool shelled out £75 million for the Benfica forward and he has still yet to establish himself as a consistent first choice option at Anfield.

However, one manager who seems to have gotten the best out of Nunez so far is former Leeds United manager Bielsa.

Nunez netted once again for his country as Uruguay picked up a 5-0 victory over Bolivia at Copa America and the Liverpool forward was given an 8/10 rating by El Observador.

On Nunez, they wrote: “He was another who performed tremendously. He scored in his seventh consecutive game and even missed some more chances. However, he always wanted it and always made it complicated (for the opposition).

Slot could be key to getting the best out of Nunez

With seven consecutive goals for his country in seven games, it is clear that the iconic Argentine coach has managed to get the best out of Nunez.

Former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is set to take the reins at Anfield and the Dutchman certainly has previous form of getting the best out of the strikers at his disposal.

Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez, who was criticised by his dad for his performances for Mexico, hit 26 goals for the Dutch giants under Slot last season.

If Nunez remains at Anfield, Slot could be the key to getting the best out of him.
