Gary Lineker has been speaking about Chelsea star Cole Palmer and the other England attackers Gareth Southgate has available to him at Euro 2024.

Cole Palmer was arguably the best player in the Premier League last season.

In 33 appearances for Chelsea, he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists.

No one in the English top flight managed to come up with more goal contributions than the former Manchester City star.

Nevertheless, Southgate has not been able to find room for him in England’s starting XI.

In the future, Lineker is tipping Palmer to play plenty of games for the Three Lions.

For now, though, the former striker thinks it is just not possible to fit the Chelsea man and all of England’s other top attackers into the same team.

“There is no question that he is going to play lots and lots of football matches for England, but you can’t play them all, you can’t play them all.”

Palmer probably could walk into England teams of the past.

The problem right now, there is so much talent in England’s attack, namely Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden.

To make matters even worse, they are all basically the same age.

It means Palmer could easily still be a bench player for the Three Lions in a few years’ time.

Today, there probably is not much Southgate can do. You really cannot expect him to play Palmer, Bellingham, Saka and Foden while making sure that his side remains balanced. And going forward, they could all continue to block Palmer’s pathway into the team because of their ages. They are all still going to be part of the same England group as Palmer since they are all age-mates.
