The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, for his efforts in supporting constituents.

Guwor’s praise came during his welcome address at the start of the second session of the 8th Assembly, where he also acknowledged the contributions of the Chief Whip, Hon. Perkins Umukoro.

Deputy Speaker Akpowowo, representing Ethiope East Constituency, and Chief Whip Umukoro, representing Sapele Constituency, have both undertaken significant constituency engagements and empowerment programs.

These activities mark the first anniversary of their tenure, which began on June 13, 2023, alongside twenty-seven other members.

Speaker Guwor highlighted the importance of these initiatives, noting, “I commend the Deputy Speaker and the Chief Whip for their constituency engagements and empowerment programs during the break. Your efforts are commendable and have set a positive example.”

In his address, Speaker Guwor expressed optimism that the recent break allowed legislators to connect with their constituents and review their performance over the past year.

He emphasized the need for continued dedication and unity in legislative duties, stating, “As representatives, the people’s hope for good governance rests on our shoulders. We must serve with passion, integrity, and unity.”

The Speaker also noted the alignment of the Assembly’s agenda with the MORE AGENDA of Governor Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, assuring that the Assembly would support the Governor’s policies and programs.

Guwor reminded his colleagues about the upcoming local government elections on July 13, 2024, urging all Deltans to participate peacefully.

He called for legislative support and commitment in the new session, particularly in passing important bills.

The Speaker thanked the Assembly’s management and staff for their support and emphasized the importance of continuous training and welfare for improved service delivery.

He noted that staff training commenced on June 25, 2024, and ongoing issues, such as CONLESS, were being addressed.

In conclusion, Speaker Guwor expressed confidence in achieving further successes in the second session, attributing past achievements to the collective effort and unity of the Assembly members.
