Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to finally get some signings over the line.

The Gunners have improved over the past few years, becoming regular Premier League title challengers after some years outside of the top four.

Next season, Arsenal will be eager to get the job done and finally win the title for the first time since 2004.

The Gunners have been linked with many top players in recent weeks, including one of the most highly sought-after defenders in Europe at present.

Now, a report from Calciomercato has shared further information on the state of play, and it’s increasingly good news for Arsenal fans.

Arsenal set to double Riccardo Calafiori salary

The player in question is Riccardo Calafiori. In recent days, speculation linking the north Londoners and the Bologna defender has intensified.

For instance, a recent report suggests Arsenal have in fact won the race for the 22-year-old and other suitors have all-but missed out.

Now, Calciomercato say Calafiori is ready to sign a contract that would see him double his salary, which is said to be €1million a year (around £16,300-a-week).

The Italian is reportedly ready to sign the Gunners’ offer ahead of a €53million (£45million) deal.

This would see current employers Bologna and former club Basel – who have a 50 percent resale clause – share £22.5million apiece.

Hopefully not long until Calafiori to Arsenal gets the ‘here we go’ rubber stamp

Arsenal seem to be making great progress in pursuit of a player Fabrizio Romano recently described as “one of the best in the world” in terms of left-footed defensive talents.

The way things are going, hopefully it won’t be long until the esteemed transfer insider declares “here we go” on the deal.

As a left-footed defender who can feature at left-back and centre-back, Arsenal would be strengthening their already solid defensive ranks with Calafiori’s signing.
