Voters will be heading to almost 100 polling stations across Sefton for this week's 2024 general election.
There are three parliamentary seats up for grabs in the borough including Bootle, Sefton Central and Southport. Both Bootle and Sefton Central are regarded as Labour safe seats and polling suggests s Peter Dowd and Bill Esterson are on course for re-election.
However, the situation is much different in Southport.
Labour has never come close to winning the parliamentary seat in Southport, which has always been represented by either the Conservative Party or the Liberal Democrats.
However, many political analysts are watching the Southport election race very closely, seeing it as a potential bellwether for the rest of the country. The Conservatives are pinning their hopes on retaining seats like Southport to avoid what they've coined a 'Labour Supermajority'. Nonetheless, Labour have a very strong chance of taking the Southport seat from the Tories and creating political history.

When you get to your polling station on July 4, give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station when you arrive.
You’ll then need to show your photo ID and will be given a ballot paper containing a list of the people, parties or options you can vote for.
Voters will be sent a poll card just before the election telling them when to vote and at which polling station. You can only vote at the polling station location on your card but you do not have to take this with you.
If you have not received a poll card but think you should, contact your local Electoral Registration Office. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on July 4.
